Belarus at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver


Belarusian athletes participated in hockey, biathlon, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and skating.

Belarus’ hockey team at the Vancouver Olympics

Belarus are 8th in the IIHF rating list

At the Olympics Belarus played in Group C against Finland (17 February), Sweden (19) and Germany (20).

Squad of Belarus’ hockey team at Vancouver Olympics is as follows:

Goaltenders: Andrei Mezin, Vitaly Koval (both - Dinamo Minsk), Maxim Malutin (Vitebsk)

Defenders: Vladimir Denisov, Alexander Makritsky (both - Dinamo Minsk), Andrei Karev, Alexander Riadinsky (both - Yunost'), Viktor Kostyuchenok (Spartak Moscow), Nikolai Stasenko (Amur Khabarovsk), Ruslan Salei (Colorado Avalanche). Sergei Kolosov (Grand Rapids Griffins);

The headcoach of Belarus’ hockey team is Mikhail Zakharov.

Belarus’ colors are red, white, and green.

The Vancouver Olympics is the third for Belarus’ hockey team. The best result of Belarus was the 4th place in Salt Lake City in 2004. Belarus surprisingly beat Sweden in quarterfinals and lost the third place game against Russia.

Men: Evgeny Abramenko, Rustam Valiullin, Sergei Novikov, Alexander Syman, Mikhail Semenov, Vladimir Miklashevski.

Women: Lyudmila Ananko, Darya Domracheva, Olga Kudryashova, Olga Nazarova, Nadezhda Skardino, Lyudmila Kalinchik.

Headcoaches: Alexander Popov (men); Andrian Tsybulsky (women).

Belarus biathletes won two medals at the Vancouver Olympics. Darya Domrachava claimed bronze in Women’s 15km Individual race. Sergey Novikov won silver in Men’s 20km Individual race.

Men: Alexei Grishin, Dmitri Dashinski, Anton Kushnir, Timofei Slivets.

Women: Assoli Slivets, Alla Tsuper.

Belarus’ aerial jumper Alexei Grishin brought the first gold to the country at the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver.

Lizaveta Kuzmenka and Maria Shkanova represented Belarus in alpine skiing, Svetlana Radkevich - in speed skating.
