Belarus lose to Switzerland at Olympics Hockey Tournament

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ hockey team lost to Switzerland in the qualification play-off round of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics on 23 February.

The final score was 2-3 (1-1, 1-1, 0-0, 0-0, 0-1). Belarus lost in the shoot-out series. Alexei Kalyuzhny and Konstantin Zakharov scored for Belarus. Dmitri Meleshko scored the only shoot-out for Belarus, while Belarus’ goaltender Andrei Mezin failed to deny two of the three Switzerland’s shoot-outs.

Thus, Belarus failed to advance into the Olympics play-offs. Switzerland are set to face the United States in the quarterfinals on 24 February.
