Summer in Minsk: Concerts in the Upper Town, open-air cinema, and theater evenings at an ancient estate
Every year from late May to mid-September, Minsk hosts its summer music and tourism season. From Friday to Sunday, the Upper Town, the area near the Sports Palace, and the Loshitsa Estate feature open-air concerts, film screenings, interactive historical venues, walking tours, and dance evenings.
This project originated in the mid-2010s as an initiative to revitalize the historic center of the Belarusian capital. Today, it has grown from occasional performances near the Town Hall into a citywide arts marathon spanning multiple venues.
In its early years, the main location was Freedom Square in the Upper Town. The highlight events were the Classics at the Town Hall and Jazz Evenings concerts, which drew thousands of Minsk residents and visitors to the stage. The Pedestrian Street project also launched, providing a legal platform for street musicians and performers. Around the same time, Days of National Cultures began to gain momentum. Later, the programs were adapted for family leisure and children’s interactive activities. The first open-air film screenings were introduced.
In 2026, the project expanded its geography. Fridays feature full-scale theater performances in Loshitsa Park, performances for young audiences in the Rakovsky Dvorik courtyard, and the venue near the Sports Palace has become a weekly large open-air cinema.
Strolling through summer Minsk, you can become part of many interesting events. For example, on a July weekend, the interactive venue Gubernatorial Minsk transported visitors back to the city of the early 20th century. A lively dance open-air event took place on the art terrace of the Upper Town concert hall. As part of the Jazz Evenings at the Town Hall, the renowned Minsk orchestra Nemiga gave an encore performance.
