Motulsky: Much work ahead to revive more literary names and artefacts in Belarus

MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) - Belarus will continue working to revive many more names equal to Francysk Skaryna and literary artefacts, Director of Belarus’ National Library Roman Motulsky told BelTA.

In the next five years the National Library will continue to preserve the historical-cultural heritage, revive the book heritage. “We want to revive and bring back into the scientific and routine use a number of literary artefacts, names and events which Belarus can be proud of in the same way as it takes pride in Francysk Skaryna. We want the country to be perceived as a country with rich scientific, cultural and educational traditions,” Roman Motulsky noted.

During the Second Congress of Scientists the Belarusian president called on intellectuals to help the state find adequate answers to the new challenges and at the same time consolidate the society, reinforce a sense of patriotism, Roman Motulsky noted. The National Library will continue to work in this direction. One of such projects will be announced soon, he informed.

In 2017, which was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing, the National Library of Belarus was honored with the the prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus “For Spiritual Revival” for the facsimile reproduction and popularization of the book heritage of Francysk Skaryna. “We did everything in order to celebrate the anniversary event of the national and international importance at a high level,” Roman Motulsky said. He noted that the high award means the recognition of the efforts of not only today’s team but all the people who worked at the National Library for over 95 years of its existence. The library acquired the first books of Francysk Skaryna almost immediately after it was founded. All these years the library staff researched and preserved the heritage of the first printer.
