80th anniversary of the Great Victory in Belarus

During the Great Patriotic War Belarus lost every third resident. Drenched in the blood of millions, plundered and half-destroyed, the country did not yield to the enemy. After many decades Belarus holds sacred the memory of everyone who contributed to the Victory over fascism!

On 9 May 2025, the peoples of the post-Soviet countries and everyone in the world who has not forgotten the lessons of history will celebrate a great holiday - the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Belarus holds sacred the memory about the feat and sacrifice of the Soviet people in that terrible war that lasted 1,418 days and nights.

On 6 December 2024, at the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in Minsk, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko once again emphasized: “This is the most important memorable date for our people. We are connected by common history, spiritual bonds and culture. Just like our ancestors 80 years ago, on 9 May we will gather on Red Square to pay tribute to the victims of that terrible war and celebrate the important anniversary of the momentous victory of the Soviet people over fascism.”

There was no war more brutal on Belarusian soil than the Great Patriotic War, there was no feat more significant than the feat of Soviet soldiers and officers who defended the Motherland from the enemy, who saved humanity from Nazism. The memory of that terrible war and the Great Victory cannot fade away: it is forever inscribed in the history of the Fatherland and every Belarusian family. The tragedy endured and the Victory achieved are an eternal source of pain and bitterness, pride and glory of the Belarusian people.

Every year Belarus hosts numerous events marking 9 May. The celebrations include ceremonies to honor war veterans, history lessons, commemorative meetings at the memorials of the Great Patriotic War and the places of mass extermination of people, and many more to help the new generations remember, honor, and appreciate the Victory that was came at such a huge cost. Events marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory are still many!
