IAEA welcomes Belarus’ dedication to safety and openness in nuclear matters

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – We welcome Belarus’ dedication to safety and openness as it is building its nuclear power plant, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in a letter following his visit to Belarus in April this year, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry of Belarus.

Yukiya Amano stressed that he considers the visit as very valuable. “Belarus made impressive progress with its nuclear program,” he said in his letter.

The IAEA head assured that the organization fully supports Belarus’ dedication to safety, openness and its intent to make a full use of the IAEA expert peer review services, guidelines and recommendations. Yukiya Amano believes that this will be an important factor in ensuring the long-term public support, and also in the relations with neighboring countries.
