Belarusian judoist wins silver at 2014 Youth Olympics

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – Belarusian judoist Dmitry Minkov claimed silver as part of the international team at the 2014 Second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China on 21 August, BelTA has learned.

The mixed team included athletes from Brazil, Serbia, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia and China’s Taipei.

It is the second medal for Belarus at the Youth Olympics. A day earlier Kristina Staroselets collected gold in the 1000m Junior Women’s Single Sculls.

Belarusian tennis player Irina Shimanovich took a hard-fought win (6-7, 6-3, 6-4) over Kamonwan Buayam of Thailand in the quarterfinal. The Belarusian will face Angelina Kalinina of Ukraine in the semifinal.

Belarus at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in China is represented by 34 athletes in 16 sports. The competitions will be over on 27 August.
