MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Belarusian athlete Kristina Staroselets claimed a champion title at the Second Summer Youth Olympic Games 2014 in Nanjing, China on 20 August. The Belarusian showed the time of 3:51.33 to collect a gold medal in the 1000m Junior Women’s Single Sculls, BelTA has learned.
Kristina Staroselets moved confidently from the very beginning. She won her preliminary race (3:44.97) and secured first place in the semifinals (3:52.02).
In the final Maria Athina Angelopoulou of Greece finished second (0.26 behind the winner), with Camille Juillet of France in third (back 2.47).
In July 2014 Kristina Staroselets was victorious at the European Under-18 Championships.
Kristina Staroselets’ gold is the first medal for Belarus at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games 2014.
Belarus at the games in China is represented by 34 athletes in 16 sports. The competitions will be over on 27 August.
