Belarus Events Calendar: November 2018

 Japanese Autumn 2018 Festival in Belarus

The 6th edition of festival of Japanese culture called as Japanese Autumn in Belarus will be running in several Belarusian cities from September till November. The festival will open with an exhibition of Japanese graphics of the 1970s at the National Art Museum of Belarus. The program of the festival features numerous lectures and master classes, concerts and film screenings, exhibitions and sports competitions, and many more events. Belarus will host many Japanese musicians and artists, masters of tea ceremony, ikebana, karate and Aikido.

Weeks of Germany in Belarus

Belarus will host the Weeks of Germany for the 15th time already. This year they will be held in eleven Belarusian cities. The program includes numerous concerts of classical and rock music, while Minsk will host the XJAZZ Festival for the first time. The admirers of cinematography will enjoy many interesting movies, including modern short films, German feature films with Russian subtitles and also documentaries. The Weeks of Germany will also feature master classes on Bavarian cuisine. The event will also see a conference on renewable energy and the Minsk Urban Forum, thematic photo exhibitions, lectures, meetings and discussions with German cultural figures and artists.

Autumn Salon with Belgazprombank in Minsk

The fourth season of Autumn Salon with Belgazprombank will feature the biggest art exhibition ever arranged in Belarus. It is similar to the legendary Paris salons at the Champs Elysees that bring together the most talented artists of our time on an annual basis. In just a few years Autumn Salon has become a platform for Belarusian contemporary art. Thanks to the education program (lectures, meet-the-artist events, master classes, interactive excursions, quests, and classes for children), the event has gained wide popularity. Last year the exhibition was attended by about 10,000 people, but this is not the limit! By the way, this year has set a record for applications to participate in the Minsk exhibition. The wonderful art project is expected to bring together 124 young artists selected by professional jury from more than 450 candidates from all over the country country.

Avant garde. 20th century

The debut project of the Libra Gallery displays 50 paintings by famous artists of the 20th century. The exposition includes works by Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Rene Magritte, Georges Braque, Paul Wunderlich, Wassily Kandinsky.

Bells of St. Sophia Cathedral festival in Polotsk

This year the Bells of St. Sophia Cathedral festival of organ music began with a musical concert to mark the 30th anniversary of the concert program in the legendary temple and the 10th anniversary of the Chamber Orchestra Europe Center. The November playbill offers art connoisseurs to enjoy organ music evenings, with the participation of virtuosos from all over the world: Johann Trummer (Austria), Thomas Niip (Liechtenstein), Tuomas Pyrhonen (Finland) and Hiroko Inoue (Japan).

Art of Chocolate exhibition

The Art of Chocolate exhibition is on the world tour and has already attracted over a million visitors. The project promises viewers a full immersion into the sweet world of chocolate thanks to a special concept: watch, touch, play, feel, shoot, smell.

Dmitry Surinovich. Fine Art. Graphics. Animations

The works by painter, graphic and animation artist Dmitry Surinovich are interesting for their polyphony. The solo exhibition displays paintings made in acrylic, watercolor, ink, collages and animated films.

100th anniversary of armistice pact in Soly

A military history reenactment will mark the international Armistice Day and commemorate the heroes and victims of the First World War and the 100th anniversary of signing the armistice pact in Soly. The program includes the reenactment of a battle, a concert “Songs of the Great War”, horseback riding, visits to Sts Boris and Gleb chapel and an exhibition of retro cars.

Minsk International Film Festival Listapad

This year Listapad, the main film festival of Belarus, one of the largest in Europe, marks the 25th anniversary and invites lovers of cinema to get to know the big, wide world. This is the slogan of Lіstapad 2018 in honor of the movie directed by Kira Muratova, the famous Russian director who the MIFF will celebrate this jubilee season. The program will open with Cold War by Pawel Pawlikowski, director of Ida, the winner of Oscar and two awards of Lіstapad 2013. Big premieres, retrospective programs, documentaries, young Belarusian cinema, and, for the first time, a fulldome program... All in all, the playbill includes 167 films from 48 countries including newcomers Kenya and South Africa. The children's program Listapadzik will offer six movies-revelations on the theme of childhood.

Dziady rite

On 2 November Belarus will mark Forefathers’ Eve popularly known as autumn Dziady. The tradition to commemorate dead ancestors originated in pre-Christian times. In the run-up to this day our forefathers cleaned all the windows and before they got down to the ritual dinner they opened all the doors to let the souls of dead relatives come back to the places where their relatives lived. An authentic rite and a journey into the history of Belarusian traditions will be performed at the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Lifestyle.

RoskvitBY multi-genre contest

The contest is meant to identify and celebrate talent in dance, song, drama, music, arts and crafts. The contest will take place in Mogilev on 3-4 November. It is meant for young hopefuls aged over 3 years. The star-studded jury will feature participants of the shows Voice, I Sing, Everybody Dance, Eurovision, Country’s Talents, Ukraine’s Got Talent, Belarus’ Young Talents. The underlying theme of this year’s contest is themed around the Year of Native Land. A photo contest Belarus is the Land of Talent will take place during the contest for the first time.

Minsk Vegan Fest

This charity festival of sustainable consumption will include an eco-market, a cycle of lectures, master classes on cooking healthy food, tastings and a food court. Other events on the program include movie screenings and live music.

Yevgeny Grishkovets, Preface

Yevgeny Grishkovets says that his solo performance is a result of many years of hard work. The play is a preface to the novel Theatre of Despair or Desperate Theatre, which tells about the things not included in the book. This is the mystery of the literary image, recollections and things that happen to a person looking to the past.

Dmitry Dyuzhev in Eugene Onegin

Eugene Onegin performed by Russian actor Dmitry Dyuzhev is an interpretation of Alexander Pushkin’s masterpiece. The accompanying music by Sergei Prokofiev was written especially for the play Eugene Onegin for the famous Chamber Theater.

Sergei Makovetsky’s solo performance Nonrandom Encounter

The performance by one of outstanding contemporary actors, Sergei Makovetsky, will narrate about the world of theater and cinema, talented persons who influenced his creative work. The program includes excerpts of plays, poetry and rare film shots featuring the actor.

Belarus Fashion Week

Belarus Fashion Week SS'2019 will feature collections of the most successful designers and brands: Nickolia Morozov, Nelva, Favorini, Kseniya Romanova, Lakbi, Condra Deluxe, ton-in-ton, Emse, Devur, Larisa Balunova, Tarakanova, Natalia Korzh, T. Efremova. The event will include the Kids' Fashion Days BFW and the social project New Opportunities. Another novelty, See Now & Buy Now, is a show of the country’s best designers and the modern Belarusian fashion.

Millers’ Fest

The Millers’ Fest in Grodno Oblast will kick off with a theatrical parade. Participants will then be treated to the traditional Odelsk cuisine. Local recipes were inscribed on the list of Belarus’ intangible cultural heritage. The program of the festival will include contests from Belarusian farmsteads, concerts and excursions.

Blacksmithing Festival

If you want to try your hand at blacksmithing and master the difficult craft of fire and hot metals (it took 3-10 years to train a new blacksmith in the past), come down to the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Lifestyle. The festival in honor of blacksmith patrons – Saint Kuzma and Saint Demyan – will offer a flamboyant music and entertainment program. The organizers invite you to visit a knight camp, take some lessons from real blacksmiths, complete a quest, and participate in ancient games and dances.

Unfinished Romance performance

A romantic comedy featuring Russian movie stars Maria Poroshina and Yaroslav Boiko. Directed by Natalya Bulyga with ironic and subtle humor, the lyric performance promises an unexpected outcome of the romantic story about quest for love.

Trap for Husband performance

The story of a respectable family man and a future politician Stefan will be retold by a team of famous artists – Fyodor Dobronravov, Yelena Safonova, Tatiana Vasilyeva, Filipp Vasilyev, and Maria Bolonkina in the course of the performance Lovushka Dlya Muzha (Trap for Husband).

Anastacia in Minsk

The American pop diva will bring to Minsk her new album Evolution, which the singer describes as SPRock, a balanced mixture of soul, pop and rock music. The concert will be accompanied by the Belarus Presidential Orchestra.

Belarusian Doll Festival

The Belarusian Doll Festival has already become a national brand. This year the festival will take place in the agrotown of Indura, Grodno District. During the festival local craftsmen will demonstrate their collections of ritual dolls, national dolls, and modern dolls they have made out of traditional local materials such as straw, flax, textiles, and papier-mache. Workshops will be arranged to allow anyone to create their own talisman doll. A theatrical performance will be staged to cover traditions and peculiarities of doll making as part of everyday life.

International Festival of Modern Choreography 2018

The international festival in Vitebsk has held the status one of the most authoritative forums of modern choreography for over 30 years. The forum 2018 will open with the plastic drama Caligula by Sergei Bezrukov’s Gubernsky Moscow Theater. Kiev Modern Ballet will show The Sleeping Beauty. JazzinMinsk International Festival 2018

The 7th edition of the JazzinMinsk international festival will bring the best jazz music performers to Belarus’ capital. The opening concert will star Spain’s quintet Lloreda Jazz, as well as Jazz Awards winners – soloists Al Sanders and Lee Mays and saxophone player Will Pollack. Headliners of the festival are Dede Saint-Prix (Martinique), Michael Varekamp (United States) and Machteld Cambridge (Switzerland).

Brit Floyd show in Minsk

The Pink Floyd tribute band from the UK will present its ultimate live Pink Floyd Tribute Show in Minsk. Brit Floyd will perform classic gems from The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd's bestselling album with estimated sales of over 45 million. According to music experts, The Dark Side of the Moon is an ambitious and creative rock masterpiece that redefined rock music and pushed Pink Floyd to a new level of the music Olympus. In its turn, Brit Floyd scrupulously restored the sounds and stage effects of the ‘floyds’.

Jose Carreras in Minsk

For the first time ever the opera tenor Jose Carreras will perform world classic hits in Minsk accompanied by the Academic Symphony Orchestra. Jose Carreras’ rapid career began back in the 1970s with triumphs in the best theaters: La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and the London Royal Opera. These days Jose Carreras’ repertoire includes over 60 operas such as Andre Chenier, La Boheme, Tosca, Werther, Don Carlo, Carmen, and Masquerade Ball. Minsk viewers are in for a magnificent evening!

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk

For the second time Belarus will host the prestigious music contest – Junior Eurovision Song Contest – with the slogan Light up! The contest will feature performers from a record high number of 20 countries. The opening ceremony will take place in the n BelExpo ational expo center while the finals will take place in Minsk Arena, which is capable of seating 15,000 spectators. Belarus will be represented by the 14-year-old singer Daniel Yastremsky and the song Time.
