MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Irina Shimanovich claimed a champion title of the Second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, BelTA has learned.
In the women’s doubles Irina Shimanovich and Ukraine’s Angelina Kalinina beat Russian duet Darya Kasatkina and Anastasia Komardina in two straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Young Belarusian Olympians have so far clinched two awards. Kristina Staroselets collected gold in the 1000m Junior Women’s Single Sculls before Belarusian judoist Dmitry Minkov claimed silver.
Belarus at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in China is represented by 34 athletes in 16 sports. The competitions will be over on 27 August.
