Zharko appointed Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister

Zharko appointed Belarus’ Deputy Prime MinisterMINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Vasily Zharko was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus. The appointment was made by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

The President noted that Vasily Zharko was selected for the post from a number of candidates for many reasons. “Indeed, there are serious achievements in your industry. However, as the vice premier you will have to solve many pending issues. I have appointed you because you have a huge experience as a minister. Perhaps, you have been working as a minister longer than anybody else. It means that you had to and solved many important issues. You would not have been the minister if you had not been able to do it,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

Vasily Zharko was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of BelarusThe President emphasized that the social sector which will be monitored by Vasily Zharko is also included in the zone of responsibility of the Head of the Belarus President Administration. “It comprises education, healthcare, and sport. This is ideology which is the main area of focus for the Belarus President Administration. You will be responsible and work in this field together,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko also enumerated a number of issues which will be of paramount importance for the new vice premier.

“As for education, it is time to improve our schools. We need to focus on universities, especially on the enrollment campaign. We have drawn a lot of attention to centralized tests and other things. It is still needed to improve a number of things,” the President noted.

In his words, serious work is to be done in sport. In spite of the big financing, the results in sport could be much better.

The head of state reminded about the instruction to raise the average salary in the country to $500 in equivalent in 2017. “This is the task for the Labor and Social Security Ministry,” he noted. “People’s salaries are rather low because of these economic issues. It should be raised at any cost.”

Alexander Lukashenko believes that Vasily Zharko will be able to encourage people to fulfill this and other tasks in the development of the social sector. “Let me give you advice: you should not be a do-gooder for anyone,” the Belarusian leader added.

Presenting Vasily Zharko, Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova remarked that he has always been a competent and proactive person. Being in the lead of the healthcare system for over 10 years, Vasily Zharko has done a lot to raise this industry to the global level.
