Yermoshina: Local election campaigning methods are evolving in Belarus

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – Campaigning methods during the elections of deputies to the local councils of the 28th convocation is evolving, Chairperson of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told the media on 7 February, BelTA has learned.

“We can hardly talk about active campaigning in the uncontested constituencies. But, for example, in Minsk, where the competition is high and where the candidates set up election funds, where they order advertising products for their money, the situation is different. Compared to what it was before, I can say that the process is evolving, the candidates are becoming more active,” Lidia Yermoshina said. She also drew attention to a great number of locations posting campaign materials.

With regard to complaints, Lidia Yermoshina said that the CEC does receive them from the participants of the election race. However, after considering them, nearly all of them are recognized as unfounded,.

On 7 February Lidia Yermoshina met with representatives of the precinct commissions of Tsentralny District of Minsk, the faculty and students of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. The meeting participants discussed the matters relating to the organization of the elections and got familiar with the equipment for polling stations. The participants asked the most relevant issues that are raised during the election campaign.
