MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – Belarus will continue the work to align the positions in order to speed up the signing of a visa facilitation agreement with the European Union, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 8 December.
Dmitry Mironchik emphasized that Belarus wants the matter to be resolved. “If we take a look at the timeline, Belarus was the first to raise the issue, even before the accession of our neighboring countries, including Lithuania and Poland, to the Schengen area,” the spokesman stressed. He said that there are several technical issues that remain unsettled. The introduction of biometric passports is one of them. “Belarus is working on this,” Dmitry Mironchik noted and added that the readmission issue remains postponed. “We will work to align these positions,” the spokesman said.
