Volfovich to China’s Politburo member: Belarus is ready for China’s global governance initiative

Volfovich to China’s Politburo member: Belarus is ready for China’s global governance initiative

MOSCOW, 28 May (BelTA) – State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich held negotiations with Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in Moscow on 28 May, BelTA has learned.

“The highest level of trust and dialogue between the leaders of our countries provides a solid foundation for supporting bilateral mutually beneficial projects,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

He drew attention to the fact that at the end of last year the trade turnover between Belarus and the People’s Republic of China reached a historic high, approaching $10 billion. “At the same time, it shows a growth trend and resilience to external factors,” the state secretary emphasized.

In his words, Belarus and China cooperate effectively on international and regional platforms, consistently opposing the use of force, threats, and sanctions pressure in international affairs while promoting the development of a polycentric world order. “Belarus views China’s initiative on global governance as timely and important. In April 2026 Belarus joined this initiative and is ready for all-round interaction to implement it. I am convinced that this will serve to further strengthen the partnership between our countries and make a feasible contribution to ensuring international stability,” Aleksandr Volfovich stated.

He also announced that on 12 May 2026 the Belarus president signed a directive titled as “On practical content of the all-weather and all-round strategic partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China”. “Aleksandr Lukashenko attaches great importance to developing the strategic partnership with our friends from China,” the state secretary of the Security Council stressed.

The meeting with the high-ranking representative of China took place on the sidelines of an international security forum. Aleksandr Volfovich had earlier held negotiations with high-ranking officials in charge of security affairs from Russia, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Pakistan, Angola, Mongolia, and Serbia.
