Volfovich: Combat readiness inspection will drive army modernization

 MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The results of the Armed Forces readiness inspection will serve as the foundation for army modernization, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told journalists following a report to the head of state on 28 January, BelTA has learned.

“At the moment, we are carrying out a preliminary review. However, once the inspection is competed, we will undoubtedly conduct a thorough analysis of all the problems and shortcomings it uncovers. These findings will be reported to the commander-in-chief. It is likely the president will announce a review on the results of the inspection,” Aleksandr Volfovich said. “Certainly, they [the inspection results] will serve as the foundation for improving our Armed Forces and for the training of personnel.”

As BelTA reported, a large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces on the instructions of the head of state began on 16 January. Aleksandr Lukashenko is personally monitoring its progress. A new system has been implemented that allows the president to directly place military units on combat readiness, circumventing the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. The main aim of these inspections is to gain an objective assessment. This is precisely why they are carried out without prior notice.
