Vladimir Makei to lead Belarusian delegation during 71st session of UN General Assembly

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei will spearhead the Belarusian delegation during the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization in New York, BelTA learned from Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 15 September.

According to the source, the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to take part in a high-level meeting on migrants and refugees within the framework of the UN General Assembly. Vladimir Makei will also take part in a high-level event focusing on fulfilling sustainable development goals and a ministerial meeting of the Middle-Income Countries Support Group.

Apart from that, Vladimir Makei will meet with a number of UN officials and heads of other delegations of UN member states.

Among other things the work of the Belarusian delegation will prioritize raising the international community’s awareness about the domestic and foreign policies of Belarus, bolstering Belarus’ leadership in enabling a global partnership against trafficking in persons, further buildup of efforts of the conventional family friends group in the UN. The Belarusian delegation will also strive to advance interests of medium-income countries as well as initiatives and proposals concerning the UN’s systemic approach to power engineering in addition to accessibility of cutting-edge energy technologies, including new and renewable energy sources.

The UN General Assembly began its 71st session in the UN headquarters in New York, USA on 13 September. General debates are expected to begin on 20 September.
