Uzbekistan’s president arrives in Belarus on official visit

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has arrived in Belarus on a two-day official visit, BelTA has learned.

At the airport, the president of Uzbekistan was welcomed by Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin. Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov was also among the welcoming party from the Belarusian side.

The distinguished guest was offered a traditional bread and salt welcome.

Upon arrival in Minsk, Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid flowers at the Victory Monument, honoring the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War.

During the talks, the heads of state are expected to review pressing issues of bilateral cooperation and prospects for strengthening it in various areas. The development of industrial cooperation and the implementation of joint projects will be the central focus of the agenda.

About two dozen documents are being prepared for signing following the talks. The main one is a declaration on establishing strategic partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

According to the website of the Belarusian embassy in Uzbekistan, trade and economic relations between the two countries demonstrate steady growth and are based on the principles of mutual benefit and strategic partnership. At the end of 2025, bilateral trade increased by 25%, nearing $1 billion. In May 2026, during the 12th meeting of the intergovernmental commission, the parties initiated the development of a joint program aimed at increasing trade to $2 billion by 2030.

Industrial cooperation covers such key sectors as electrical engineering, pharmaceuticals, the chemical and textile industries, as well as the production of building materials.

Agricultural machinery and mutual supplies of agricultural products traditionally remain important areas of cooperation.

Investment cooperation is expanding. More than 200 enterprises with Belarusian participation are successfully operating in Uzbekistan. In turn, more than 100 companies with the involvement of Uzbek investments are registered and operating in Belarus.
