Uzbekistan invites Belarus to set up joint research laboratories

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Uzbekistan invites Belarus to step up scientific cooperation, in particular, to open joint laboratories. This matter was discussed as Chairman of the Belarusian Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich met with a Tashkent delegation, BelTA has learned.

According to Uzbekistan Minister of Innovative Development Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, the Tashkent delegation has come to Belarus also to establish close scientific ties. Uzbekistan takes special interest in Belarusian experience in successful introduction of research developments to the industry. “We would like to study the best practices, open joint laboratories and university faculties in Uzbekistan and Belarus, establish close cooperation between the hi-tech parks of our countries,” he said.

“Uzbekistan views Belarusian experience in innovative development as an example of a proper link between science and industry,” the minister added.

The countries are also interested in strengthening interregional cooperation. This will be one of the aims of the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, the preparation for which was also on the agenda of the meeting. Mikhail Myasnikovich informed the participants that the Council of the Republic is vigorously gearing up for this event and has created an organizational committee. He also invited Uzbekistan to discuss conclusion of more agreements and supported the idea to bolster scientific cooperation.

The chairman also pointed out that the bilateral relations have become more active in the recent years. The official visit of Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Uzbekistan in September 2018 gave an impetus to the cooperation. During the visit, the countries signed 19 agreements which laid the foundation for cooperation in all areas.

The Tashkent delegation was led by Hokim (Governor) of Tashkent Oblast Gulomzhon Ibrahimov. While in Belarus the delegation intends to discuss trade and economic, investment and regional cooperation.
