Union State patriotic forum kicks off in Brest

BREST, 20 June (BelTA) – The second international patriotic forum of the Union State Great Heritage, Shared Future has opened in Brest, BelTA has learned.

The three-day forum is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Discussions will focus on preserving the shared historical memory, promoting patriotic education among younger generations through historical knowledge, fostering civic responsibility and patriotism, encouraging respect for the military and labor achievements of previous generations, preserving historical and cultural heritage, and protecting historical truth. Special attention will also be paid to countering neo-Nazi ideology as a threat to the contemporary world order.

According to the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, the event has attracted considerable media interest. Nearly 200 journalists from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, and China have been accredited to cover the forum.

The program opened with a meeting of the Youth Chamber at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Before the session, young parliamentarians laid flowers at the Eternal Flame in the memorial complex Brest Fortress and observed a minute of silence in memory of those who perished. A presentation of the book “Road to May 1945. The only Victory we need” will also take place on 20 June. The publication was prepared by the Standing Committee of the Union State to mark the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
