The UNDP project coordinator said: “We are very glad that Belarus represented by the Interior Ministry, the Interior Ministry Academy, and the international training center based on it demonstrates such a strong interest in studying the international experience, in sharing the best practices in this field. We are glad to help the country in this regard.” He noted that in 2015 over 190 UN member states signed a new agreement on what goals they intend to reach through joint efforts in the next ten years. Among other things the international community has recognized the problem of trafficking in persons and hence will put efforts into resolving it.

An international seminar is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 17-19 November to share the experience and the best practices in combating trafficking in persons. Representatives of the competent agencies of Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and the UK as well as international and non-governmental organizations concerned gathered in the Belarusian Interior Ministry Academy’s international center for training, retraining, and career enhancement for personnel involved in migration and the counteraction of trafficking in persons.

Participants of the seminar are supposed to share the experience of interaction between government agencies and public associations in counteracting international trafficking in persons. Apart from that, ways to develop and bolster cooperation will be discussed. In particular, those include coordination of search and retrieval efforts and information exchange. The seminar has been organized as part of the international technical aid provided by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
