Trade between Belarus and Russia’s Kaluga Oblast up by 42.6% in Q1 2018

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) - Trade between Belarus and Russia’s Kaluga Oblast increased by 42.6% in the first quarter of 2018 to total $131.3 million. These figures were voiced at the session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Kaluga Oblast of Russia by Alexander Shumilin, the chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus, co-chairman of the working group, BelTA learned from the press service of the committee.

In 2017 the trade reached $494.7 million, which was by 35.4% over 2016.

Last year the parties approved a plan of action to implement the bilateral agreement on cooperation in trade, economy, science and culture for 2018-2020. “Most of the activities of the plan involve regional authorities, organizations of Belneftekhim, the Construction and Architecture Ministry, the Transport Ministry, Bellegprom light industry concern and Belgospishcheprom food industry concern, the Industry Ministry. They are ready to step up cooperation with Russian counterparts in agricultural engineering, food, equipment, and housing construction,” Alexander Shumilin said.

He also noted that the joint implementation of the second phase of the Kaluga regional social and economic development strategy up to 2030 “People at the heart of Investments” will give a powerful impetus to the mutually beneficial cooperation. The matter is about the development of the life and environment cluster. “These encompass housing construction, development of the integrated commercial and service infrastructure and, accordingly, new jobs,” Alexander Shumilin noted.

For his part, First Vice Governor of Kaluga Oblast Dmitry Denisov noted that Belarus has substantial industrial potential and urged to bolster cooperation ties. As example of promising cooperation areas he noted joint projects in the fields of industry, construction, healthcare, housing and utilities, water treatment.

The delegation from Russia's Kaluga Oblast will be in Minsk on the visit till 30 May. The program of the visit envisages a number of activities, including talks in the ministries and participation in the Belarusian Industrial Forum.
