Talks on Ukraine resume in Minsk

Talks on Ukraine resume in Minsk

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) - A regular round of talks to secure peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine is underway in Minsk, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Minsk is hosting the meeting of the working groups of the trilateral contact group promoting peace settlement in Ukraine,” the ministry said. The trilateral contact group is set to convene later in the day.

At the previous meeting of the trilateral contact group on 19 September OSCE's special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik said Coordinator of the Humanitarian Working Group, Ambassador Toni Frisch visited eleven detention places in Kharkov, Starobilsk, Donetsk, Lugansk and Bakhmut and met there with 36 detainees, five of them being not conflict-related.

It was noted that the east of Ukraine had become one of the most densely mined areas in the world. In this respect Coordinator of the Group Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan stressed the importance of the so-called "humanitarian demining" and a systematic approach to it, Martin Sajdik informed. He also noted that the first stage of repair works of Yuzhnodonbasska water pipeline in Avdiivka industrial zone had been accomplished.
