Talks on Ukraine resume in Minsk

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – The working groups of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine have gathered in Minsk for talks, BelTA learned from the Twitter account of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The talks will be followed by a meeting of the trilateral contact group.

At the previous meeting on 29 November the trilateral contact group, with the participation of representatives of several parts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast, confirmed the readiness to exchange people detained as part of the conflict on the basis of the approved lists and coordinate as promptly as possible the procedure and date for the exchange, with a view to doing it before the Christmas and New Year holidays. The issues related to the security of civil population in the conflict zone and the compliance with ceasefire agreements were in the center of attention of the trilateral contacts group and its working group on security. The participants of the working group confirmed full adherence to the truce announced in connection with the start of the academic year. The working group also discussed the withdrawal of forces and hardware and stressed the need to inform the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission on the location and storage of armament.

The parties reached mutual understanding on two other points as well. The first one was to clean and demine the territory along all the checkpoints at the contact line to improve security of the population. The other will help address the issue with access to the bridge on the northern bank of the Seversky Donets River in the Stanitsa Luganskaya checkpoint. With a view to improving the state of approaches to the bridge, the parties agreed to hold repairing works on 9-10 December, given the ceasefire regime is observed.
