Sweden’s social services interested in Vitebsk rehabilitation practices

VITEBSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Swedish social services are interested in adopting practices of their counterparts from Vitebsk Oblast in the organization of social adaptation and rehabilitation of young disabled people, BelTA learnt from coordinator of the project, deputy head of the department of social support to people and inpatient facilities of the committee on labor, employment and social protection Inga Glushonok.

According to her, Sweden is interested in the activity of day-care centers for disabled people operating at territorial centers of social services and the organization of labor workshops.

“Cooperation between the region’s social services and Sweden partners from Halmstad is a decade-long project on social integration of children and youth with disabilities in Vitebsk Oblast under the financing of the Swedish government. This project where our committee acted a partner is unique for Belarus. The program includes regular meetings and seminars, roundtables both in Vitebsk Oblast and Sweden. Over the time the directors of all oblast territorial centers have undergone training in Sweden. It is noteworthy that if it was us to absorb the European experience before, today foreign colleagues take note of many of our best practices,” Inga Glushonok added.

At the same time Belarus continues adopting Swedish experience. Last week a group of directors of five territorial social service centers of Vitebsk Oblast returned from a week-long on-the-job training in Sweden. The first certificates have been issued only this year. “Now we have five European-certified specialists in social adaptation and rehabilitation of disabled people who are going to introduce Swedish practices in Vitebsk Oblast,” Inga Glushonok said.

The project will be completed in July 2015. Before this time another on-the-job training is scheduled for six physicians from Vitebsk Oblast residential care institutions. A new project to succeed the current one is under development.
