South Korean equipment for Belarusian healthcare, social services

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Three Belarusian healthcare and social service institutions have received unique equipment from the Republic of Korea. The ceremony to hand over the relevant certificates took place in the national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities on 15 September, BelTA has learned.

The equipment was acquired as part of the South Korean program Official Development Assistance (ODA). An extracorporeal membrane oxygenation apparatus will be given to the national applied research center for organ and tissue transplantation. Two videoimage endoscopy systems for minimal invasive surgery are intended for the national applied research center for otorhinolaryngology. A pediatric bodybuilder with electric stimulation and biological feedback for treating locomotive system disorders will go to the national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Belarus Kim Yong Ho, representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, and the national applied research centers took part in the ceremony.

It was noted that the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation apparatus (aka artificial lungs) will help grave patients, virtually bringing them back from the dead. The equipment the national applied research center for otorhinolaryngology will receive will allow avoiding complications and restoring hearing in many patients. By the way, the national applied research center for otorhinolaryngology performs about 3,000 surgeries per annum, with the share of high-tech ones as high as 80%.

Belarusian Deputy Labor and Social Protection Minister Alexander Rumak thanked the Korean side for the pediatric bodybuilder with electric stimulation. He noted that the equipment will serve children from all over Belarus, who get treated by the national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities. Specialists of the center are ready to share their best practices with South Korean colleagues.

Members of the Korean delegation were made familiar with the operation of the national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities. They spoke in glowing terms about the center’s work and the conditions the kids enjoy.

The national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities is a unique institution. It is part of the Labor and Social Protection Ministry system. It was built as part of the presidential program Children of Belarus and opened in November 2000. The center was built in accordance with the standards of similar European rehabilitation institutions. It can offer personalized rehabilitation programs to disabled children aged 3-18, who suffer from neural disorders and musculoskeletal system disorders, resulting in locomotive system disabilities.

The center offers medical aid, pedagogical and psychological aid, and social rehabilitation. Comfortable conditions have been enabled for disabled children and the accompanying relatives (mothers as a rule). Rehabilitation programs take into account peculiarities of every child. The local school offers group and individual classes depending on the intellectual level of the children. The computer lab employs special developing methods.

As many as 2,300 young patients are registered with the national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities. The center has been able to help over 15,000 boys and girls since it was opened.
