Sergeyenko briefs CSTO PA Council on Belarus’ Armed Forces inspection results

MOSCOW, 20 April (BelTA) – Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko informed the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on the results of the comprehensive inspection of the Belarusian Armed Forces at a Concil’s meeting in Moscow on 20 April, BelTA has learned.

“From the beginning of this year, over the course of three months, the Armed Forces comprehensive inspection was carried out on the instructions of the president of the Republic of Belarus. What made this inspection distinctive was its unprecedented scale and the conditions, which were as close to real as possible. Based on the results of the control measures, the leadership of the Armed Forces will be given specific tasks to eliminate shortcomings and address the identified problem areas. As Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko noted, the readiness and ability of our Armed Forces to respond instantly to any aggressive movement toward Belarusian borders is an indispensable guarantee of peace and security for the state,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

He emphasized that Belarus is implementing a set of response measures aimed at neutralizing growing military threats, thereby also ensuring the security of the CSTO’s western flank. “This includes both strategic deterrence measures and the direct preparation of our national Armed Forces. The signing of the Belarus-Russia security guarantees treaty within the Union State should be viewed as a measure of strategic deterrence. The document formalizes mutual defense commitments and provides for response measures to external threats, including the use of nuclear weapons,” the speaker noted. At the same time, he stressed that Belarus’ response to Western actions is purely defensive in nature.

“The Republic of Belarus understands its responsibility for ensuring the collective security of the organization on the western axis and is working to increase the readiness of its national Armed Forces to repel military threats. At the same time, we recognize that in today’s world this is not enough,” Igor Sergeyenko said. According to him, under these circumstances, it is essential that CSTO member states be prepared to provide one another with political, military and technical support.
