Russian strike aircraft about to redeploy to tactical airfields in Belarusian-Russian army exercise

Photo from the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian FederationMOSCOW, 14 September (BelTA) – Russian strike aircraft are getting ready to redeploy to tactical airfields as part of the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017, BelTA learned from representatives of the Information and Mass Communications Department of the Russian Federation Defense Ministry.

Fighters, bombers, and army aircraft units at the airbases of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Western Military District are getting ready to redeploy to tactical airfields, said the source. The technicians have prepared the aircraft for a lengthy flight, including by attaching additional fuel tanks as well as missiles and bombs.

The crews will get flight instructions right before takeoff. The pilots are ready to carry out any mission, including intercepting aerial targets, forcing trespassers to land, destroying the ground targets that pose as vehicle columns of the imaginary enemy, providing aerial cover to troops on the ground, performing airmobile assaults and many other things.

The Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 is scheduled for 14-20 September. The chiefs of the general staffs of the Belarusian and Russian armies oversee the exercise. The main purpose of the exercise is to improve operational cohesion of staffs of different levels, connections between and compatibility of advanced troops control systems. New army regulations will be practiced. Commanding officers of all ranks will practice commanding troops taking into account the combat experience of modern armed conflicts. The Zapad 2017 exercise is the final stage in the joint army training efforts of Belarus and Russia.
