Russian foreign minister to visit Belarus on 25-26 November

MOSCOW, 19 November (BelTA) – Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov is expected to visit Belarus on 25-26 November, BelTA learned from Maria Zakharova, an official spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a briefing on 19 November.

According to Maria Zakharova, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov will come to Minsk on a working visit on 25-26 November in order to participate in a joint session of the boards of the ministries of foreign affairs of Russia and Belarus. In her words, Sergey Lavrov is also expected to meet with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei.

According to Maria Zakharova, the sides intend to discuss the situation evolving in Belarus and key items on the bilateral agenda and the international one. The joint session of the boards of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian one on 26 November will discuss the fulfillment of the program on concerted actions in the area of foreign policy of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in 2020-2021, including the coordination of actions in international organizations, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Participants of the session will also touch upon the state of relations with the European Union, the possibility of the CSTO's participation in UN peacekeeping operations, prospects of forming the Greater Eurasian Partnership by connecting integration processes. Interaction in the sphere of international information security will be discussed as well. Joint documents, including the plan for ministerial consultations for the year 2021, will be signed as a result of the session. A resolution of the session of the joint boards will be signed to reflect agreements of the sides on the matters they had discussed, Maria Zakharova added.
