Russia approves Seliverstov as Belarus’ new ambassador

MOSCOW, 26 January (BelTA) - Russia has approved the appointment of Yuri Seliverstov as Belarus’ ambassador to Moscow, BelTA learned from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“On 26 January, Russia issued the agrément (consent) requested by Belarus on 22 January for the appointment of Yuri Seliverstov, previously the Finance Minister of Belarus, as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation,” a message published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads.

The new head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission is expected to arrive in Moscow shortly and present copies of his credentials to the overseeing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, after which he will be able to begin his full duties.

“In Moscow, there is confidence that continuity and positive momentum will be maintained in the progressive development of the extensive bilateral cooperation and in deepening integration processes within the framework of the Union State, the EAEU, the CSTO, and the CIS, in which Yuri Seliverstov will simultaneously represent the Republic of Belarus. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its readiness for continued close interaction and coordination with the Belarusian embassy in the Russian Federation and wishes Yuri Seliverstov every success in his new responsible position,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
