Rumas, Medvedev meet in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Rumas and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting in Dushanbe on 11 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

“The meeting of the heads of government of Belarus and Russia took place late in the evening of 11 October. Sergei Rumas and Dmitry Medvedev discussed topical issues of Belarus-Russia cooperation in various sectors, with a focus on economic matters. They also discussed the schedule of the forthcoming meetings at the high and highest levels,” the press service of the Belarusian government noted.

In January-July 2018, Belarus-Russia trade amounted to $20.4 billion, up 15.2% over the same period a year before. Russia remains Belarus’ major trading partner. In January-July 2018, Russia accounted for 49.7% of Belarus’ foreign trade, 38.8% of export and 59.1% of import. Over the six months the export of services to Russia made up $1.57 billion, up 17.9% over January-June 2017. The import stood at $758.4 million.

In January-June Russia accounted for $2 billion or 36.4% of foreign investment raised by Belarus in this period ($5.5 billion) as well as 36.1% of FDI (Belarus raised a total of $4.4 billion of FDI, including $1.59 billion from Russia).
