Rome to host first meeting of Belarus-Italy business council on 15 June

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – The first meeting of the Belarusian-Italian business council will take place in Rome on 15 June, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich told at the opening of the 2nd Italian-Belarusian Business Forum on Green Economy on 23 April, BelTA has learned.

“Not long ago we signed an agreement to set up the Belarusian-Italian business council. Its first meeting is due to take place in Rome on 15 June. Italy has always been one of Belarus’ major trading partners. Several years ago our mutual trade exceeded $2 billion. Belarus an Italy are countries with open economy that depends on the state of the global market. Our openness, however, helps us make a step towards increasing bilateral trade. We have a necessary legal framework for this,” said Vladimir Ulakhovich.

In January 2018 the growth of the Belarusian exports to Italy made up 42%. In Belarus there are 104 companies with the Italian capital. “We have good business relations and interstate ties. We expect another meeting of the intergovernmental commission in the near future. The program of activities will include a meeting of businessmen,” noted Vladimir Ulakhovich.

He expressed confidence that the 2nd Italian-Belarusian Business Forum on Green Economy will become a good opportunity to develop new joint business projects between the two countries.

Attending the event are almost 50 Italian and 140 Belarusian enterprises. Among the invitees are Belarus’ major governmental institutions, specialized associations and representative offices of joint Italian-Belarusian companies. The goal of the event is to advance the latest achievements of the Italian industry in green economy with the focus on waste management, renewable resources (solar and wind power plants), energy efficiency in civil and industrial construction, agriculture, smart cities. The forum is aimed at strengthening and expanding bilateral economic cooperation between Italian and Belarusian companies. The forum is organized by the Italian embassy in Belarus in cooperation with Confindustria Belarus and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
