Putin: Russia will do its utmost to ensure Belarus’ security

MOSCOW, 19 December (BelTA) – Russia will do its utmost to ensure the security of Belarus, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Q&A session combined with his annual press conference in Moscow on 19 December, BelTA has learned.

"We will do everything to ensure the security of Belarus. We do this in coordination with the leadership of Belarus, with Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko," Vladimir Putin said.

He recalled that Russia's updated nuclear doctrine provides for the defense of the entire Union State of Belarus and Russia. "We announced that if Belarus, our ally, a member of the Union State, faces threats, we will consider it as threats to Russia," the president noted.

"I think this is an important component of the updated nuclear strategy of the Russian Federation," the Russian leader added.
