MOSCOW, 11 March (BelTA) – President of Russia Vladimir Putin met with Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas in the Novo-Ogarevo countryside residence of the Russian head of state on 11 March, BelTA learned from the Kremlin press service.

Vladimir Putin and Stanislav Zas discussed the implementation of plans on fighting terrorism and drugs trafficking. Security precautions during festive events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 were also reviewed.

Stanislav Zas became the secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on 1 January 2020. His candidacy was approved by the CSTO heads of state on 28 November 2019. Vladimir Putin said at the meeting: “I am very glad to see you in this new capacity. You are an experienced man. I hope you will use all your experience to make the CSTO Secretariat work smoothly, to make all the plans sketched out in the past to be implemented. I mean efforts to enable smooth interaction of our collective forces and work on the most important areas such as fight against terrorism, drugs trafficking, and so on. We have a lot of plans. The celebration of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War is ahead of us. Certain events are also supposed to take place within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. I strongly hope all of it will be implemented.”

Vladimir Putin reminded that Russia had taken over the CSTO presidency this year. “So, we are going to maintain tighter than usual interaction with you,” he noted.

Stanislav Zas said he had been working in the new capacity for 2.5 months. What needs to be done is clearly understood, the CSTO secretary general assured. After that he talked about the tasks the CSTO faces this year.
