Putin appoints special representative for Belarus-Russia agreement on security guarantees

MOSCOW, 11 August (BelTA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko as special representative as stipulated in the Belarus-Russia agreement on security guarantees within the Union State framework. The relevant decree was published on Russia’s official legal information portal, BelTA learned.

“Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander  Grushko shall assume the duties of Special Representative of the Russian Federation as stipulated in Article 8(3) of the Agreement on Security Guarantees between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus within the Union State framework, signed in Minsk on 6 December 2024," the document reads.

Article 8(3) of the Agreement stipulates that the parties shall appoint special representatives who shall meet at least twice a year to review the implementation of the agreement, to develop (when necessary) proposals for enhancing its effectiveness and to submit such proposals for consideration by the heads of state.

Earlier, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta as Minsk's special representative for the Belarus-Russia agreement on security guarantees within the Union State framework.
