Prospects for Belarus’ participation in UN activities discussed in New York

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – The prospects for Belarus’ participation in UN activities are being discussed in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The UN headquarters in New York is hosting the 56th session of the Committee for Program and Coordination of the United Nations (CPC) from 31 May to 24 June. Oleg Yermolovich, Director-General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, was elected as a rapporteur to the CPC Bureau. The 56th session of CPC will review the Strategic Framework for the period 2018-2019 and examine progress on the ongoing United Nations programs.

Comprised of 31 UN member states, the CPC is the main subsidiary organ of the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly for planning, programming and coordination of UN’s administrative and budgetary activities. Belarus has been elected to the CPC for the period 2015-2017. The CPC reviews the implementation of the ongoing UN programs, including from the point of view of budgetary implications, evaluates the results and makes recommendations, if necessary, on the priority order and ways to improve methods of program implementation within the UN system.
