Proposals to advance Belarus-Russia integration cooperation received

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – Belarus has received Russian proposals on advancing integration cooperation. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the relevant statement as he and foreign diplomats visited the WW2 memorial complex Khatyn in Logoisk District, Minsk Oblast on 22 March, BelTA has learned.

According to Vladimir Makei, the Belarusian side has received proposals from Russian colleagues regarding their vision of further integration processes in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

“Various matters concerning our relations were discussed during meetings of our leaders. The relevant materials were handed over. The Belarusian side is now perusing these materials,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.

The event held in the World War Two memorial Khatyn on 22 March was timed to the 76th anniversary since the day punitive forces of the German army destroyed the Belarusian village of Khatyn. The German troops burnt alive and shot nearly all the residents – 149 people, including 75 kids. The memorial complex erected at the site where the village once was is designed to remind visitors about countless sacrifices, suffering, and yet courage of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Khatyn’s fate befell hundreds of Belarusian villages. The memorial complex Khatyn was opened on 5 July 1969. It has attracted about 37 million visitors since then.
