Preparations for CIS Foreign Ministers Council, Heads of State Council sessions discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – The CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives at the CIS charter and other bodies convened for a meeting hosted by the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 22 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The permanent representatives discussed the preparations for the upcoming sessions of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Heads of State Council that will be held online on 15 and 16 October respectively. They also considered the international documents that might be signed at these sessions, which was added to the agenda by the Russian representative.

The participants of the committee listened to and discussed the information about contribution of the CIS base institutions and their councils to the cooperation within the CIS. The agenda of the meeting also included the status of implementation of the Free Trade Zone Agreement. The participants stressed the necessity to continue dismantling trade barriers between the parties to the agreement. This will become one of the main prerequisites for economic growth and mutual trade development. In order to liberalize trade, the parties decided to continue overseeing the implementation of the agreement and drawing up the agreement on free trade in services.

In addition, the permanent representatives discussed the candidates from the CIS member states for the posts of the OSCE secretary general and heads of the OSCE institutions. Consideration was also given to the status of implementation of the memorandum to promote closer tiers between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The participants of the session also approved the candidates for the positions of the heads of the CIS missions to observe the presidential election in Tajikistan and Moldova scheduled for 11 October and 1 November respectively. The mission to Tajikistan will be led by Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev and the one to Moldova – by First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Viktor Guminsky.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives at the CIS charter and other bodies will take place on 27 October.
