MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) - Belarus-China relations are a model of strategic partnership, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said as he met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Minsk on 6 June, BelTA has learned.
“Belarusian-Chinese relations today are an example of a mature, trusting, and forward-looking strategic partnership. It is especially important that the foundation of our cooperation is not only a high level of political dialogue but also economic components - trade, investment, industrial cooperation, and technical and economic assistance,” said Aleksandr Turchin.
On 12 May, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Directive No. 9 “On the Practical Fulfillment of the All-Weather and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China”. “China is the only foreign country for which documents of this level are adopted. Belarus views China as one of its key economic partners and a strategic investor. We are consistently working to align the Belt and Road Initiative with the national priorities of Belarus’ social and economic development, building modern transport, logistics, manufacturing, and technology corridors across Eurasia,” the prime minister said.
Particular importance is attached to the development of the Great Stone Industrial Park, which has become a landmark joint project and a platform for industrial, scientific, technological, and innovation cooperation. “We are continuously refining and improving the operating conditions in the park in order to increase the presence of Chinese investors, localize high-tech production, create joint ventures, and jointly promote products to third-country markets,” Aleksandr Turchin emphasized.
Belarus pays special attention to cooperation in the fields of science, artificial intelligence, and mechanical engineering. “We are confident that combining the scientific potential and technological capabilities of our countries will enable a qualitatively new level of economic interaction,” the prime minister said.
Belarus and China have declared 2026–2027 the Years of Industrial Cooperation. According to the Belarusian head of government, this is one of the main priorities of cooperation between the two countries.
“Taking this opportunity, I want to congratulate China on the successful holding of the annual Two Sessions and on the adoption of the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China for 2026-2030. Belarus also held its Belarusian People’s Congress at the end of 2025, which adopted a program for the social and economic development of our country for 2026–2030,” Aleksandr Turchin said.
The two development plans are similar not only in essence but also in their strategic direction. “The decisions adopted by our countries confirm a strategic and long-term approach to ensuring sustainable economic growth, technological modernization, strengthening energy security, and improving the quality of life of citizens. A key focus is placed on strengthening the export potential of both countries and maintaining technological sovereignty, which is extremely valuable in our time. We are confident that the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan’s objectives will allow China to successfully achieve its strategic goals, strengthen its position as one of the leading centers of the global economy, and further improve the wellbeing of the Chinese people,” Aleksandr Turchin stressed. “We also support China’s efforts to strengthen an open global economy, develop resilient supply chains, and build a fair system of international economic cooperation.”
The prime minister also expressed sincere gratitude to China for its active participation in organizing and holding a significant forum, A Big Market for Everyone: Export to China, as part of the international specialized exhibition Belagro 2026 on 7 June, as well as the first Belarusian-Chinese Forum of Regions in Gansu Province in early July 2026. “I am confident that these events will provide practical substance to the comprehensive strategic partnership between our countries,” the head of government emphasized.
The prime minister expressed confidence that the visit of the vice president of China to Belarus will be an important step in implementing new joint projects and will give additional momentum to practical Belarusian-Chinese cooperation. “I hope that during your visit you will have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of our country and the hospitality of the Belarusian people,” he stressed.
Aleksandr Turchin also announced that he plans to hold a working meeting with Premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang on the sidelines of the China International Import Expo in Shanghai in November 2026.
Han Zheng noted that this is his first visit to Belarus. “The friendship between our countries has a long history and only grows stronger over time,” he said emphasizing that relations between the two countries are developing at a high level and bringing benefits to their peoples.
