PM: Absence of Belarus-EU basic agreement counterproductive for both sides

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The absence of the basic agreement between Belarus and the European Union is counterproductive for both sides, Belarus’ Prime Minister Sergei Rumas said as he met with European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources Gunther Oettinger on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to know what should be done to accelerate the conclusion of the Belarus-EU basic agreement, because such a legal vacuum between the neighbors is certainly counterproductive for both sides,” Sergei Rumas said.

The premier also brought up the issue of the visa facilitation agreement with the EU. The work on the document is nearing completion.

As BelTA reported earlier, Gunther Oettinger is on a working visit to Belarus on 17-18 February. He is to discuss issues related to the development of political dialogue, trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the European Union, and interaction in the financial and customs sectors.
