Plans to hold regional forum on sustainable development in Minsk in early 2018

Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail MyasnikovichMINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze on 4 September, BelTA has learned.

According to the Belarusian speaker, Belarus plans to hold a regional forum for coordinators for sustainable development in Minsk in early 2018. He invited Georgian representatives to take part in the upcoming event.

Mikhail Myasnikovich emphasized that Belarus-Georgia bilateral relations are based on mutual respect, trust, and support. There has been positive dynamics in every field of cooperation. Trade and economic cooperation have been growing, too. Mikhail Myasnikovich pointed to the increasing number of various projects. “We see great opportunities for developing trade and economic cooperation in setting up joint ventures in Belarus and in Georgia, both on a bilateral basis and with third-country participation,” he added.

The speaker also invited Georgia to put more focus on international cooperation since “the potential of Georgia’s and Belarus’ regions is huge and it should be fully exploited”. He also drew attention to the increasing flow of Belarusian tourists to Georgia, which has a good basis for further growth.

In turn, Mikheil Janelidze stressed the rapid development of bilateral relations in all fields and commended the contribution of MPs in this regard. He also thanked Belarus for the assistance with fighting forest fires in Borjomi. “Specialists have been sent to Georgia with the necessary equipment. They have done something impossible. We highly appreciate it,” Mikheil Janelidze said.
