MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Vadim Ipatov met with Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon Nabih Berri, BelTA has learned.

Vadim Ipatov is currently visiting Beirut as part of a Belarusian government delegation. During the meeting with Nabih Berri, he emphasized the importance Belarus places on developing traditionally friendly relations with Lebanon, which is considered an important partner in the Middle East.

"We are interested in expanding political, economic, and humanitarian contacts between Minsk and Beirut, as it meets the interests of both nations. Belarusian deputies are committed to strengthening ties with Lebanon both through platforms like the Inter-Parliamentary Union and through bilateral cooperation," Vadim Ipatov said.

In order to enhance inter-parliamentary interaction, the deputy speaker suggested signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the parliaments of both countries and resuming the work of friendship groups among parliamentarians.

"We agreed to work on the legal foundations of our cooperation. In particular, we focused on preparing and eventually signing a memorandum of understanding. This will serve as a roadmap for how the parliaments of Belarus and Lebanon will build relations to strengthen economic and other areas of cooperation," Vadim Ipatov emphasized.

Speaking on the significant potential for trade and economic cooperation, he invited Lebanese business representatives to participate in major international exhibitions and congresses held in Belarus.

Following the meeting, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri was invited to pay an official visit to Belarus leading a parliamentary delegation.
