OSCE briefed on Belarusian army’s latest weapons

MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – In line with the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures Belarus is demonstrating new types of the main weapon systems and military hardware for representatives of OSCE member states on 4-6 July, BelTA has learned.

As many as 38 representatives from 19 countries and the OSCE Conflict Prevention Center took part in the relevant briefing. The countries included the UK, Hungary, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Russia, the USA, Ukraine, and France.

The event was supervised by Major-General Oleg Voinov, Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department, Aide for International Military Cooperation to the Belarusian Defense Minister. He noted: “One of the goals of this meeting is to inform [those present] about the main directions of our defense policy, to demonstrate that Belarus is a peace-loving country. We have no territorial claims to any neighbor, but we have armed forces, new weapon systems and hardware, which can safely protect the republic.”

“Within the framework of international commitments we are supposed to demonstrate new weapon systems and hardware and we are doing just that. We give all the OSCE countries an opportunity to get familiar with them up close. I think this event will address many issues and will melt the ice of mistrust, which may exist. We will trust each other more. We should strive for it,” said the major-general.

The foreign representatives were informed about the multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) V-200 BM Polonez, which the Belarusian army received in 2016, and the 120mm mortar 2B23 Nona M1. The weapon systems will be demonstrated in reality at the location of the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade of the Belarusian army on 5 July.
