Number of foreign diplomatic missions in Belarus expected to increase

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – The number of diplomatic missions accredited to Belarus is expected to increase in the nearest future, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the opening ceremony of the Embassy Office of the Netherlands in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

According to the minister, some 60 diplomatic missions, consulates, and international organizations have already been accredited to Belarus. “We are working on this. Several countries of the so-called distant arc have said they are ready to open their embassies in Belarus. Some European countries are set to follow the example of the Netherlands and are considering a step-by-step plan of action. The number of foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Belarus will increase soon,” Vladimir Makei noted.

He added the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is busy analyzing the work of the Belarusian diplomatic missions abroad. “It is possible that we will advise the head of state to close some ineffective ones or open new ones in the countries, the cooperation with which viewed as promising for Belarus,” the minister clarified.
