New Russian ambassador vows to strengthen Russia-Belarus ties

New Russian ambassador vows to strengthen Russia-Belarus ties

MOSCOW, 29 May (BelTA - TASS) – New Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev stated that he will focus on expanding ties between Russia and Belarus at his new post.

“The number one goal is to facilitate, as much as possible, the huge work done by the national leaders to strengthen and expand the ties between Russia and Belarus, between our regions,” Dmitry Mezentsev told the media.

On 29 May, Russia’s Federation Council terminated Dmitry Mezentsev’s powers of senator in view of his appointment to the post of Russian Ambassador to Belarus. He told the media earlier that he was set to arrive in Minsk on 2 June.

On 30 April Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to appoint Dmitry Mezentsev Russian Ambassador to Belarus.
