MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – The Minsk City Hall confirmed Anatoly Sivak as new Minsk mayor at a meeting on 26 November, BelTA has learned.

“I am sure that Minsk will receive a reliable leader who will do his best to add momentum to the development of the city and bring it to a high-quality level,” said Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova, introducing the new chairman of the Minsk City Hall.

In her words, Anatoly Sivak knows the Belarusian capital well, since he earlier served as the president’s aide, the inspector for Minsk. He is known to be highly responsible for the assigned tasks, for his ability to work with people, and integrity in decision making.

Natalya Kochanova also thanked former Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets for a significant contribution to the development of the city and wished him success and good luck on his new position.

According to the head of the Belarus President Administration, the key tasks set before the authorities of the Belarusian capital will include the need to raise efficiency of enterprises, a good organization of the 2^nd European Games, further improvement of territories, landscaping, the creation of new jobs, the commissioning of unfinished facilities, and dealing with applications of citizens.

“Minsk should be an example to follow. The economic sector is the basis, of course. The effective operation of each enterprise is the key to the success of the budget, which will help solve issues in healthcare, education, culture and sports,” Natalya Kochanova said.

In turn, Anatoly Sivak assured that he would invest his knowledge and experience in the creation of a comfortable environment for citizens. “The duty of the city hall, district administrations, heads of state institutions, commercial and public utilities is to fully meet the needs of Minsk residents, create favorable conditions, including for business and the economy as a whole. It is necessary to raise the maintenance of the housing stock, the surrounding areas to a new level, pay attention to the citizens’ feedback on the availability and effectiveness of medical, education and cultural services, physical education and sports. It is also important to ensure further development of public transport,” he said.
