New building of Belarus embassy opened in Budapest

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The new building of the Embassy of Belarus in Hungary was solemnly opened in Budapest on 24 April, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Taking part in the ceremony were Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, ambassadors of the OSCE states, who are accredited in Budapest, and representatives of Hungarian mass media.

In her speech the Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “It is very important for Belarus to maintain sincere and open relations with Hungary — a state, which is indeed a friend of our country.”

In turn, Peter Szijjarto stressed the importance of Belarus’ diplomatic efforts in resolving the regional crisis and the need for an individual approach to cooperation with Eastern Partnership Initiative countries. He mentioned the high level of bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Hungary, the friendly relations and the readiness of both countries for an equal and mutually beneficial dialogue.

During the event the Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade discussed the state and prospects of relations between the countries, trade, economic, and investment cooperation, and interaction in international organizations. Close attention was paid to the forthcoming summit of the Eastern Partnership Initiative in Riga and interaction with Hungary as part of the dialogue between Belarus and the European Union. Apart from that, preparations for Peter Szijjarto’s forthcoming visit to Minsk were mentioned during the meeting. The visit is scheduled for 29 April.

While in Budapest Alena Kupchyna is also expected to meet with co-chairman of the Belarusian-Hungarian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Laszlo Szabo. During the meeting the sides are expected to discuss preparations for the next session of the commission, which is scheduled to take place in Budapest on 17-18 September.
