Myasnikovich: Belarus-Armenia interparliamentary ties are systemic

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Interparliamentary ties between Belarus and Armenia are systemic. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the statement at the meeting with the Armenian parliament delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov on 29 June, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich said: “The most important thing is that they are systemic. And we support each other in the international scene.” For instance, Belarusian and Armenian MPs effectively cooperate in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. The Belarusian MP added: “Fortunately, there are no fundamental differences between us that could negatively affect the interstate relations.”

Mikhail Myasnikovich also pointed out that it is necessary to develop trade and economic cooperation. It is necessary to work harder with the Eurasian Economic Commission among other things for the sake of removing the barriers that still exist in the Eurasian Economic Union. Mikhail Myasnikovich said: “As far as the [Eurasian Economic Union] Treaty is concerned, it has 71 regulations on articles of commerce.”

In turn, Eduard Sharmazanov said that the Eurasian Economic Union is a union of opportunities but not all of them have been utilized so far.

In 2014 Belarus-Armenia trade totaled $38.6 million. Belarus’ basic exports are tires, insulated wires, cables, milk and dairy products, tractors and so on. Belarus imports hard liquors, oil products, medications, flowers, cars and other commodities from Armenia.

A delegation of the Armenian parliament is in Belarus on a visit on 29 June – 2 July. A meeting with the leadership of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament has already been held. A visit to Brest is part of the schedule. In Brest the Armenian MPs will take part in the unveiling of a carved stone cross that has been erected to commemorate the Armenian soldiers, who died to defend the Brest fortress.
