NAYPYIDAW, 28 November (BelTA) – The status of Myanmar’s diplomatic mission in Minsk will be upgraded to an embassy, Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Min Aung Hlaing told the media following the talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Naypyidaw on 28 November, BelTA has learned.

Min Aung Hlaing noted that the friendship and cooperation between Belarus and Myanmar have now reached the highest level. “We discussed issues related to the accelerated implementation of previous agreements, strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in many areas, especially in defense, agriculture, industry, education, science, technology, healthcare, sport and tourism. In order to further strengthen diplomatic relations between our countries and enhance cooperation in economy, politics, culture and other areas, we have agreed to upgrade the status of Myanmar’s Consulate General in Minsk to that of an embassy,” Min Aung Hlaing said. In addition, the establishment of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Myanmar was also discussed.

The leader of Myanmar emphasized that Myanmar and Belarus are close friends. “Belarus is the most reliable partner for Myanmar, and Myanmar should likewise be the most reliable partner for Belarus,” Min Aung Hlaing said. “The visit of the Belarusian head of state is the first since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.
