MPs to help intensify Belarus-Bulgaria cooperation in education, tourism

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – MPs will help intensify cooperation between Belarus and Bulgaria in education and tourism. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Belarus National Assembly’s working group on cooperation with the Parliament of Bulgaria with a delegation of the Bulgaria-Belarus friendship group of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, BelTA has learned.

Head of the working group of the National Assembly of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of Bulgaria Irina Starovoitova noted that the MPs of the two countries see great prospects in developing cooperation in education. In her words, the matter concerns the activation of joint training of specialists in the tourism sector, the development of academic mobility, an exchange at the level of the academic staff. The MPs also discussed the development of tourism cooperation. Bulgaria expects an increase in the number of Belarusian tourists, including children recuperating in children’s camps.

Belarus and Bulgaria have many areas of common interest in agriculture, transport and science. Irina Starovoitova stressed that the parties have sufficient potential for the development of scientific, technical and innovative cooperation. Among the priorities she named optical and laser technologies, energy, healthcare, bio- and nanotechnology, IT. “The implementation of joint breakthrough projects can give an impetus to the innovative development of the economies of both countries, contribute to the solution of issues of health protection, sustainable development,” the senator said. She added that MPs intend to facilitate the implementation of existing and the emergence of new joint projects. The parties also considered the prospects of interregional cooperation, where the sides see reserves for the development of trade and economic relations.

A joint statement was signed at the end of the meeting. Head of Bulgaria-Belarus friendship group of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Vasil Antonov praised the results of his visit to Belarus. The parties discussed a wide range of issues, including trade and economic relations and tourism. He also said that this year or in early 2019 Bulgaria is expected to welcome Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich and expressed confidence in further fruitful development of inter-parliamentary contacts.
