MPs to consider equal rights of citizens of Belarus and Russia

MOSCOW, 16 October (BelTA) - Ensuring equal rights of citizens of Belarus and Russia will be the subject of a meeting of the permanent workshop at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State. It will be held in Pskov on 23-24 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

The workshop participants will discuss the equal rights of citizens, which is one of the priorities of the Union State, the legislation branches of Russia and Belarus to be harmonized for these purposes, the forms and methods of ensuring equal rights of citizens. Participants will examine the experience of other intergovernmental institutions, regional practices in this field. The meeting will outline the promising areas of work and proposals to be included in the plan of action to approximate the laws of Belarus and Russia.

Following the workshop practical recommendations will be developed and sent to the departments and agencies of the two states, other entities concerned.

The workshop will be attended by members of the Parliamentary Assembly, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State, ministries and agencies of Belarus and Russia, media, experts and scholars from leading universities of the two countries.

The permanent workshop at the Parliamentary Assembly was set up in 2006. Traditionally it brings together the academics to consider in detail the topical issues of cooperation of Belarus and Russia in the Union State format.
